Rice Science Café: Human Habitation in Space

IN-PERSON: The Rice Science Café shares the excitement of research in the [Wiess School of Natural Sciences](https://naturalsciences.rice.edu/) in a casual and welcoming format accessible to people of all backgrounds. This Science Café event is held in partnership with the Consulate General of France, Houston.

**Human Habitation in Space**

Description: “Blast off on a captivating journey — humanity’s next giant leap! This Science Café ignites your curiosity about living in space. Join biologist Scott Solomon and illustrator Karim Oyarzabal as they unravel the mysteries of building a home amongst the stars. They’ll explore the wonders and challenges of space habitation, painting a vivid picture of this exciting future.

**[Dr. Scott Solomon](https://profiles.rice.edu/faculty/scott-solomon)** is a biologist, professor, and science communicator. He got his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and now, he teaches ecology, evolutionary biology, and scientific communication as an Associate Teaching Professor at the department of BioSciences at Rice University. He is also a Research Associate at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History.

**[Karim Oyarzabal](https://villa-albertine.org/residents/karim-oyarzabal/)** is currently an illustrator and theater producer. Before that, he worked as an engineer on dams and construction sites in Colombia and Nigeria, and as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs in London. Now, he draws, illustrates press articles, and writes and produces comic books. His current work is inspired by the myriad of meetings related to space: engineers, scientists from European and French space agencies, and artists.

The talk will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Pre-event reception 6 p.m.
