Following the popularity of our Journey into Italian Art and The Meaning Behind the Masterpieces lectures, we are thrilled to welcome back Francesca Lanza for a new, four-part art history lecture series. Join us in-person at the Italian Cultural & Community Center for The Wonders of Italian Art: Veneto and Southern Italy, starting Monday, February 5, 2024.
Over four, hour-and-a-half classes, this course will explore the incredible treasures and hidden gems of Veneto and Southern Italy—areas with rich histories of trade, exploration, and colonization that forged unique styles of art. We will examine the most significant artworks, monuments, castles, palaces, and villas along the way.
The first two classes will focus on the masterpieces of the Veneto region, as well as its most famous artists and architects: Tiziano, Tintoretto, and Palladio, to name a few. Over the following two classes, we will turn our gaze southward to the vibrant artistic traditions of Campania, Puglia, and Sicily. From Naples to Palermo, passing through Puglia with its magnificent castles and churches, we will explore ancient mosaics and temples, as well as examples of Byzantine and Baroque art and architecture.
