The Houston Lawyer Referral Service (HLRS™) provides referrals to over 200 private practice attorneys who have been screened and selected on experience in specific areas of the law. HLRS™ serves individuals with a legal matter in the Houston Metropolitan area including Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend, Brazoria and Galveston counties, Texas.
The HLRS™ is sponsored by nine local bar associations, is certified by the State Bar of Texas, and is one of a select few programs nationwide that meets the standards of the American Bar Association.

What is the Houston Lawyer Referral Service?
If you need an attorney or think you have a legal problem, The Houston Lawyer Referral Service (HLRS™) is here to help.
When you call the HLRS™ office, a trained staff member will help you determine the nature of your problem. Many times people think they need a lawyer, when all they really need is a referral to a community service program or governmental agency. If your problem does require the services of an attorney, the HLRS™ staff member can make a referral to an attorney who is in private practice. The referral will be based on your legal problem and your preference for an attorney located in a specific geographic area. You can also request a referral by using the Request a Referral button on the HLRS™ web site.

Established in 1958, the HLRS™ is a non-profit, community service program of the legal profession. The HLRS™ is sponsored by nine local bar associations, is certified by the State Bar of Texas, and is one of a select few programs nationwide that meets the standards of the American Bar Association.
The HLRS™ has nearly 200 attorney members that can accept cases from 38 different legal categories. All HLRS™ attorneys provide an initial 30-minute office consultation for nominal fee of $20. HLRS™ attorneys are in private practice and charge customary legal fees to help you with your legal matter. Please note personal injury cases are usually on a contingency fee basis (you pay when the attorney collects money from the other party.) Attorneys participating on the HLRS™ service are in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and must meet strict guidelines and criteria.
Additional services provided by the HLRS™ are Spanish-speaking staff and attorneys, reduced-fee attorneys for income-eligible individuals (email [email protected] to request an application), and a 24-hour attorney on call for emergency matters.
The HLRS™ serves over 100,000 individuals each year in Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend, Brazoria, and Galveston counties. We also offer bilingual staff and attorneys, reduced fee attorneys for income-eligible individuals, a 24-hour attorney on call, and referrals to social service agencies. After the initial consultation the lawyers charge customary legal fees.
