For its 2023-24 lecture series. the [Scientia Institute at Rice University](https://scientia.rice.edu/) focuses on the theme of ‘[Resilience](https://scientia.rice.edu/resilence).”
Description: “Humanity is being confronted as never before by both natural and human-made challenges, from climate and health to social justice and artificial intelligence. In this year’s lectures, distinguished faculty around campus address the courage, fortitude and imagination necessary to meet these challenges and, we hope, overcome them.”
The second lecture in the series will feature:
**[Moshe Vardi](https://profiles.rice.edu/faculty/moshe-y-vardi)**, Karen Ostrum George Distinguished Service Professor in Computational Engineering, University Professor, Computer Science, in a talk tilted “Lessons from COVID-19: Efficiency vs Resilience”; and
**[Thomas Miller](https://profiles.rice.edu/faculty/tom-miller)**, Associate Professor, BioSciences, in a talk to be titled.
