Nonfiction White Elephant Gift Exchange

Join us for a holiday happy hour and walk away with something new to add to your reading list. This meet-up is a nonfiction book gift exchange with no pre-reading required.

**To participate:**
– Pick one of your favorite nonfiction books to give.
– Wrap your book and attach a short note (1-4 sentences) describing the book or explaining why it is one of your favorites.
– DO NOT sign your note.
– Bring your gift and meet us at Under the Volcano for the festivities.

**White Elephant Gift Exchange Rules:**

1. You must bring a wrapped book to participate in the gift exchange.
2. Place your gift in the designated spot on arrival. Resist the urge to talk about your gift, but you are welcome to browse the gifts and notes before we start.
3. We will draw numbers from a bowl to determine the choosing order.
4. Whoever draws #1 will pick a gift from the pile, read the note attached, and open the gift.
5. Subsequent players will have the opportunity to pick a new gift from the pile or steal a book that has already been opened. A few notes about steals…
— A book can only be stolen once per turn.
— If your book is stolen, you have the option to steal or choose a new gift.
— A book can only be stolen 3 times total during the exchange. Whoever is holding the book after the 3rd steal goes home with it.
6. After everyone has received a gift, player #1 has the option to steal a book or end the game. This is the last turn.

We’re excited to hear you share a nonfiction book you’ve loved that hasn’t made it to the reading roster yet. Hopefully you walk away with something new, and maybe unexpected, to enjoy over the holidays.
