Economic Value of Engineering Innovations: Monetary valuation of technical products and platform ideas

February 1 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs established 17 Sustainable Development Goals to improve human existence. Economics, engineering, and technology are central to meeting these goals during the 4th Industrial Revolution. Hence, America seeks to develop digital technologies for sustainable cities and communities. Likewise, Texas desires to engineer products that improve industry, innovation, and infrastructure. Additionally, Houstonians want access to decent work and to enjoy economic growth. Thus understanding finance and accounting as an engineering and technology professional provides career advantages within our current industrial evolution.

During this seminar, Dr Joshua Gray will enhance participants’ understanding of how the economic viability of engineered products and technical platforms are determined as they develop innovations to achieve our sustainability goals. Professor Gray will provide economic principles that will empower attendees to become successful managers or be promoted as a leader in this new industrial era. Aspiring entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs seeking to develop products or commercialize services will learn methods to determine monetary value for business cases to acquire investment funding.

Join RCEL at the Ion for an enlightening discussion on the economic value of engineering innovations. Dr Joshua Gray will provide insightful techniques for estimating costs and evaluating benefits. Professor Gray will also provide engaging tools useful for analyzing the impact of interest and calculating return on investment.

Speaker: Joshua Gray, PhD, LSSBB, PMP, HTE

  • Professor in the Practice, Rice Center for Engineering Leadership (RCEL)
  • Advisory Board Chair, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Houston
  • Principal Consultant, Lukman Consulting Group
