Civic Scientist Lecture Series: A Conversation with Walter Massey

HYBRID: “Join us for an evening discussion with esteemed educator and physicist [Walter Massey](https://pme-cms.prod.uchicago.edu/kawalek-group/people/walter-e-massey). Massey is the former president for Morehouse College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He previously served as the director of the National Science Foundation and Argonne National Laboratory, and sat on the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology under both President George H.W. Bush and President George W. Bush. Prior to his work in administration, Massey served as a faculty member and conducted research at Argonne National Laboratory, the University of Illinois, Brown University and the University of Chicago.

“Among other topics, Massey will explore the urgent need for increased diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). He will also discuss the future of innovation as it relates to STEM fields.”

He is the former president for Morehouse College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Prior to his work in administration, Massey served as a faculty member and conducted research at Argonne National Laboratory, the University of Illinois, Brown University and the University of Chicago.
