Talk: Machine Learning in Healthcare – from Diagnostics in Hospitals to Disease Pathways in Space Flights!
Abstract: Healthcare organizations possess one of the largest databases in the world. However, due to patient confidentiality and complex de-identification processes, machine learning-based studies and applications have been falling back in healthcare as compared to the tech industry. As technology has advanced and privacy laws evolved, hospital systems are more open and collaborate with healthcare industries. In this seminar, I will discuss where machine learning can be applied in different domains of healthcare and how academic, national lab and industry organizations use this tool to provide meaningful insight to managing different domains of healthcare. I will cover a range of topics from challenges associated with machine learning applications in diagnostic imaging in identifying cardiovascular diseases – to where omics data coupled with machine learning can be utilized in precision medicine to identify pathways specific to space radiation affecting astronauts’ health.
