Because of the success of past Italian art history classes at ICCC, we are excited to present a new course that will highlight important aspects of Italian art through the ages. The course will be taught by art historian and ICCC instructor, Francesca Lanza.
In the first class, we will start by observing the wonders of Etruscan funerary art and the majestic catacombs where much of it resides. We will also look at some of the most significant pieces of ancient Roman art.
In the second and third classes, we will analyze several of the defining Renaissance masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi and Raphael among many others. We will see how their artistic triumphs changed the concept of the artist forever from an anonymous craftsman to a respected intellectual.
The fourth and final class will take the student on a journey across many centuries from the 1600s to the 2000s. Students will discover the greatest achievements of later Italian art from the powerful renderings of Caravaggio to the flamboyant baroque of Bernini to the dynamic art of the Futurism movement.
If you like art, do not miss the opportunity to join this course where we will discover the enigmas hidden inside these works and the secrets behind their creation.
