The Role of Carbon Materials in the Energy Transition

February 9 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

IN-PERSON: The Rice Science Café presents “The Role of Carbon Materials in the Energy Transition,” featuring [Matteo Pasquali](https://profiles.rice.edu/faculty/matteo-pasquali), Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and [Marie-Nathalie Contou-Carrere](https://carbonhub.rice.edu/carbon-hub-management-team/marie-nathalie-contou-carrere), Executive Director of the Rice Sustainability Institute.

Description: “Carbon dioxide emissions are driving climate change. For the public, they are often associated with the combustion of fossil fuels to generate electricity and power transportation systems. Yet, the manufacturing of materials is an equally important source of emissions. The transition to renewable electricity generation and electrification of transportation is putting new pressures on our materials supply chains, which is leading to higher manufacturing emissions and additional pressures to mine in fragile environments. Matteo Pasquali and Marie-Nathalie Contou-Carrere will discuss how a new class of materials based on carbon could completely change our materials supply chains, accelerating the transition to a sustainable, low-emissions future.”

Friday, Feb. 9, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Pre-event reception 6:00 p.m.

The event will be held at the Ralph S. O’Connor Building for Engineering and Science, Rice University.
